Established in 2021 by Liz Lawson to honor her wife, Shirley Franck. The fund will provide scholarships to students who are residents of Jay County who are non-traditional and are pursuing a post-secondary degree. It was Shirley’s wish to create a scholarship providing help to students who epitomize the life shill of perseverance. Shirley, herself a non-traditional student, graduated from Madison High School and worked at Jay Garment before realizing her dream to go to college. After earning degrees, Shirley devoted 47 years to education. Beginning her career at Madison, she then taught at East Elementary, later coached teachers around the state while working for the C.L.A.S.S. program, and eventually culminated her career at IUPUI. Even through decades of cancer treatments, Shirley was truly undaunted in her passion for living and teaching. Category: Scholarships
