2015 Summer Scholarship Recipients

The Board of Trustees of The Portland Foundation has approved scholarships totaling $78,940 for Forty-One Jay County residents for the summer 2015 scholarship cycle. 

 

The Janet B. Arnold Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County High School graduate who is a college junior or senior and is majoring in elementary education.  Laura Morrison will receive a one-time award of $500.

 

The Altrusa Club of Portland Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is a non-traditional student.  Nicole Johnson will receive $300.

 

The Dr. Ara C. and Gay B. Badders Medical Scholarship is awarded through the Dr. Ara C. and Gay B. Badders Scholarship Fund.  Dr. Badders was a physician in Jay County for many years. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County High School graduate who is majoring in a doctoral medical program.  Ben Brandt, Haley Brandt, Tray Dunn, Austin Mann, Jordan McMillan and Thomas Shrack will receive $2,300 each.

 

The Marseal T. Deweerd, Edith T. Horn, and Virgie M. Brady Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are entering their junior or senior year of college.  Kaylyn Frye will receive $950.

 

The Alwyn Carder Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is a college junior or senior and is majoring in architecture, history, or education.  Catherine Alig, Hannah Lugar and Jessica Mills will receive $3,530 each. Laura Morrison will receive $3,000.  

 

The East Central Opportunities Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are enrolled in higher education classes at the John Jay Center for Learning. Casey Shannon will receive $450.

 

The John Jay Center for Learning Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is pursuing a degree through the John Jay Center.  Casey Shannon will receive $100.

 

The Charles & Ruth Joos Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is entering either their sophomore, junior or senior year of college with preference given to sophomores. Tiffany Barton, Kody Degler, Jill Dirksen, Cheyanne Dull, Patricia Hein, Takoa Knight and Kelsey Sell will each receive $900.

 

The Elizabeth Starbuck II Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are entering either their sophomore, junior or senior year of college. LeAnn Horn, Courtney Knight, Angela Mann and Jessica Ooten will each receive $2,000.

 

The Haynes Starbuck II Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are entering either their sophomore, junior or senior year of college. Sara Bollenbacher, Randy Fortkamp and Kortney Garringer will each receive $2,000.

 

The Orla and Ruth Tharp Education Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County High School graduates, with first preference to students enrolled in a Masters program or a non medical Doctoral program. Second preference to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of college. Alisha Byers and Dominic Martyne will each receive $3,000. Randa Gillespie, Eric Hemmelgarn and Amber Huelskamp will each receive $1,500.

 

The Robert Quadrozzi Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are enrolled in higher education classes at the John Jay Center for Learning. Casey Shannon will receive $250.  

 

The Jerry R. Pierce Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually, with preference given to employees and descendents of employees of W & M Manufacturing, Pier-Mac Plastics, and Accelerated Curing.  Brock McFarland, Max Morgan, Mitchell Morningstar, Jacob Nichols, Ben Pesek, Kohleman Shannon, Amazia Switzer, Robert Switzer and Brooke Thomas will each receive $2,000.

 

The Ruth Whipple Badders Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is a college junior or senior and is majoring in education. Hannah Lugar will receive $200.
