2017 Winter Teacher Creativity Mini-Grant Recipients

The Board of Trustees of The Portland Foundation has approved Teacher Creativity Mini-Grants totaling $5,769.80 for 22 projects for the first half of 2017.

Teacher Creativity Mini-Grants are to help cover the costs ($300 or less) of learning experiences which teachers feel are important to their students, yet are outside the budget of their school. This program is funded by the Virgil and Josephine Thomas Educational Fund, a component fund of The Portland Foundation, as a way to increase funding for educational projects and programs.

This program funds grants for field trips, classroom supplies, class projects, programs, music or art instruction, speakers, educational materials and seminars. The purpose is to allow teachers to become more creative in their teaching styles and methods, without being hindered by cost.

The grants awarded are as follows:

Ms. Carol Bantz – Westlawn Elementary School Grade 1 - $291.72 to fund books books for reading groups

Ms. Kelly Bricker -Redkey Elementary School Grades K-5 - $170 to fund admission fees to Indianapolis Museum of Art

Mr. Jeff Davis – Westlawn Elementary School Grades K-2 - $200 to fund the purchase of reading/learning materials for the literacy coach

Ms. Amy Fullenkamp – Bloomfield Elementary School Grade 2 - $300 to fund the purchase of 6 OSmo coding sets for iPads

Ms. Carol Gebert – Jay County High School Grades 9-12 - $300 to fund the purchase of materials to build makeup stations for the drama dept.

Ms. Dora Houck-General Shanks Elementary School Grade 1- $300 to fund the purchase CD's and books for English fluency

Ms. Nicci Littler- Westlawn Elementary School Grade Pre-K- $300 to fund the purchase of an iPad Pro

Ms. LaVetha Loucks- Westlawn Elementary Schools Grades K-5- $135 to fund fees for the Bongo Boy Music School trip

Ms. LaVetha Loucks- Redkey Elementary School Grades K-5 - $155 to fund fees for the Bongo Boy Music School trip

Ms. Brenda Lykins- Westlawn Elementary School Grade 2 - $300 to fund the purchase of new books for the classroom library

Ms. Beth Mathewson- Jay County School Corporation Grades K-12 - $244.90 to fund the purchase of a "Focus on Fluency" kit to aid with stuttering

Ms. Shaylee Myron- Bloomfield Elementary School Grades K-5 - $287.60 to fund the purchase of 6 games and ad-ons to for speech and language therapy

Ms. Lindsey Peterson- General Shanks Elementary School Grades K-5 - $256.63 to fund the purchase of materials to aid students who have Austism and Apraxia of Speech

Ms. Loretta Reece- Jay County High School Grades 9-12 - $300 to fund the purchase of cost of visiting Lucas Oil Stadium to view behind the scenes production of a Colts game

Ms. Christa Robinson- Westlawn Elementary School Grades 1-2 - $300 to fund the purchase of leveled books

Ms. Brooke Schmiesing- East Elementary School Grade 2 - $300 to fund a thematic study of owls in the spring 

Mr. Seth Swallow- Jay County High School Grades 9-12 - $300 to fund the purchase of materials to build makeup stations for the drama dept.

Ms. Julie Szymczak- Jay County High School Grade 11 - $268.95 to fund transportation to College/Career Day at JJCL

Mr. Doug Tipton- Jay County High School Grades 9-12 - $300 to fund the purchase of materials to build makeup stations for the drama dept.

Ms. Jennifer Wilson- General Shanks Elementary School Grade 1 - $300 to fund materials to create math and engineering boxes for the classroom

Ms. Sara Wolf- Westlawn Elementary School Grade K - $300 to fund the purchase of leveled reading books 

 

The next Teacher Creativity Mini-grant Application deadline is July 10, 2017.
